Constantine Gurzun from Burghfield jailed for sex assault
A SEXUAL predator has been sent to prison.
Constantine Gurzun appeared in the dock at Reading magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 20.
The 48-year-old, whose address was given as The Hatchgate Inn, The Hatch, Burghfield, admitted touching a woman sexually in Reading on Monday, October 7, when she did not consent.
He further admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and assaulting a female police officer by beating her, both on the same occasion.
At a previous hearing district judge Samuel Goozee ordered pre-sentence reports.
He stipulated these should be prepared on an ‘all options’ basis and reserved his right to send the case to the crown court for sentencing should he feel his own powers of punishment were insufficient.
Gurzun was meanwhile denied bail and was remanded in custody.
At Wednesday’s hearing he was jailed for 12 weeks.
No order for costs was made because of his lack of means.
Magistrates said a custodial sentence was necessary because the circumstances of the offence were so serious.
Gurzun was also required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.
