Man left apparently unconscious following major public order incident in Thatcham
AT least one person has apparently been seriously injured in a major incident at Thatcham town centre this evening.
Around 20 police officers, several police cars and vans plus ambulance crews and PCSOs attended public disorder said to have happened in the Kingsland Centre.
A male was lying, apparently seriously injured and unconscious, covered by a police jacket, around 5.30pm, on the pavement as roads were blocked off.
He was later taken away by ambulance.
Senior police officers at the scene have declined to say whether or not there was on ongoing risk to the public.
However, calm had apparently been restored to the town centre by 7pm.
Witness reports gave varying accounts of what had happened and there has been speculation on social media but police have declined to confirm or repudiate any details.
Enquiries were instead referred to Thames Valley Police media office.
The media office has not responded.
