Greenham man makes whopping donation to Dogs Trust, Hamstead Marshall

A man has made a large donation to an animal charity – with a twist.

Greenham resident Steve Morgan holds an annual festival spectacle every Christmas to raise funds for charity.

Last year, he managed to raise £1,126, which he presented to the Dogs Trust – in dog food – at its Hamstead Marshall site on Friday (January 12).

Speaking about the volunteers’ reaction when he arrived with a van load of dog food, he said: “You had to see the look on their faces; it was amazing.

“We had a walk around and saw what they get up to behind the scenes. It’s quite phenomenal really.

“I take my hat off to them. My little bit of input was nothing compared to what the volunteers do.

“They do everything for those animals to make sure they go to good homes.

“They were over the moon to see how much it was.

“If people didn’t do this sort of thing, they wouldn’t get anything.”

Determined to have the maximum impact possible, Mr Morgan, a keen animal lover, chose to donate the amount in wet and dry dog food to help the pooches most in need.

And he reckons he could have donated twice the amount a couple of years ago when food prices were cheaper.

Reacting to his donation, centre manager, Natasha Tarrant, said: “We’re very grateful for Steve and Tania’s generous donation of dog food.

“Their support helps us continue our vital work of looking after the dogs at our Newbury rehoming centre, while they await their perfect match.”

Mr Morgan has decorated houses on his street and sold wooden reindeer, snowmen and robins for seven years now to support different charitable causes.

He said he next plans to support children’s charity, Dingley’s Promise, and hopes to donate any leftover funds to the Dogs Trust.
