Stockcross man celebrates milestone birthday with cash boost for Newbury Cancer Care

A Stockcross man has celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by more than 80 close friends and family members.

John Foster marked his birthday milestone with a “wonderful” lunch prepared and served by Quinten Catering, followed by a party held at Stockcross Village Hall.

But Mr Foster — a village resident for more than 60 years — said he did not want to receive gifts.

Instead, he asked if people would make donations to Newbury Cancer Care.

He managed to raise £670, totalling more than £800 with gift aid.

Mr Foster and his family presented the funds raised to director of operations at Newbury Cancer Care, Helen Milroy.

Over the years, Mr Foster and his late wife, Daphne Foster, raised more than £7,500 for St Mary’s Surgery, The Charles Clore Unit and Newbury Cancer Care.

Mr Foster alone has donated more than £1,000 to Newbury Cancer Care in recent years.

He would like to thank everyone who contributed to his birthday fundraiser.
