Burghfield man Daniel Hodgkinson remanded in custody after strangulation conviction
A MAN has been sent to the crown court in custody after being convicted of intentional strangulation.
Daniel Hodgkinson appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 19.
The 40-year-old, formerly of of Mill Road, Burghfield, and latterly of no fixed address, had denied the non-fatal strangulation offence but was convicted following a trial.
Hodgkinson had also denied assaulting the same female, thereby causing her actual bodily harm, and threatening her with a knife.
However he was acquitted of both these charges.
All the above offences were said to have occurred in Burghfield on a specific date this year and the complainant can not be identified for legal reasons.
Magistrates meanwhile declined further jurisdiction and ruled that the sentencing for the strangulation offence should be dealt with by a judge, with greater sentencing powers than their own, sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
Hodgkinson was meanwhile refused bail and was remanded in custody.
