The 32-year-old, who lives in a flat in John Boys House in Glendale Avenue, Newbury, is accused of pursuing a course of conduct that amounted to stalking Emma Hills and instilling fear of violence in her in Newbury between December 3 and December 18 last year.

Specifically he is charged with and causing her to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence would be used against her by making telephone threats to her, contrary to the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

Mr Williams, who was legally represented at the hearing by Tom Brymer, was told the case would be sent to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury.

Mr Williams was meanwhile denied bail and was remanded in custody to await a plea and trial preparation hearing at the crown court provisionally fixed for Monday, January 15.
