The 66-year-old, of Beancroft Road, Thatcham, faces two charges under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

One involves penetration and the other does not.

Both offences are said to have happened during a six-month period.

Magistrates declined further jurisdiction and sent both matters to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

Mr Murthwaite was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
