Reading Magistrates’ Court: Thatcham man sentenced for assault




A MAN who denied offences of assault and making threats has been convicted following a trial.

In the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 18, was Phillip Rampton.

The 50-year-old, of Redshank Court, Thatcham, who was legally represented by Martin Hennessy, was found guilty of assaulting George Rattray by beating him in Thatcham on August 28 last year.

He was further convicted of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on the same occasion.

Mr Rampton was made subject to a 12-month community order with a 120-day alcohol abstinence requirement.

In addition, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work.

Finally, Mr Rampton was ordered to pay £775 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £114.
