Greenham man Jamie Mellett sentenced for assault

A MAN has been ordered to compensate an assault victim.

Jamie Mellett appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 13.

The 28-year-old, of Pinchington Lane, Greenham, admitted assaulting Sodiq Adeyemi by beating him in Newbury on February 18 last year.

Mellett denied a further, racially aggravated public order offence and this was dismissed after the prosecution offered no evidence.

He was made subject to a 12-month conditional discharge.

In addition, Mellett was ordered to pay £85 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £26.

Finally, he was ordered to pay Mr Adeyemi £50 compensation.
