Thatcham man Edward Jeffrey sentenced for Newbury GBH attack
A MAN has been given a suspended prison sentence for a serious wounding offence.
Edward Jeffrey appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 3.
The 48-year-old, of Derwent Road, Thatcham, admitted unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Don Cameron in Newbury on June 30 last year.
Mr Jeffrey, who was legally represented at the hearing, was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for one year.
Magistrates said a custodial sentence, albeit suspended, was necessary because of the serious and unprovoked nature of the attack.
In addition, Mr Jeffrey was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work.
Finally, he was ordered to pay Mr Cameron £5,000 in compensation in lieu of costs or an otherwise statutory victim services surcharge.
