Man suffers fatal heart attack at Northcroft Leisure Centre today (Friday)




Paramedics unable to revive 72-year-old

EMERGENCY services were called to Northcroft Leisure Centre today (Friday) after a man suffered a fatal heart attack.

Paramedics and air ambulance staff attended the scene at around 10am after the 72-year-old collapsed while playing badminton at the health centre in Northcroft Lane, Newbury.

The man died at the scene despite efforts by staff and paramedics to revive him.

A spokesperson from Legacy Leisure, which operates Northcroft Leisure Centre on behalf of West Berkshire Council, said: “We can confirm that at around 10.20am today a 72-year-old man collapsed while playing badminton at Northcroft Leisure Centre.

"Duty staff immediately went to his assistance and began efforts to resuscitate him before continuing to help local and air ambulance paramedics, who sadly were unable to revive him.

"We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
