Man threatened in town centre over ‘gutter cleaning’ payment




Police are appealing for help to trace a man who demanded money from a shopper in Newbury town centre.

He wanted £240 for cleaning guttering – work that is believed not to have taken place.

The man was in his 40s, and wore a black baseball cap, trousers and top.

The incident happened on Wednesday, October 2.

Thames Valley Police is using the incident to remind residents to be cautious about anyone requesting money for any goods or services that they have not requested.

In any instance, a quote, an invoice or a receipt should be given by the service provider.

Anyone with concerns over such incidents can call Action Fraud on 0300 1232040 or log on to www.actionfraud.police.uk

Alternatively, they can call 101 or, if they suspect a crime is taking place or someone is in danger, can call 999.

The 101 number can also be used for anyone who has any information, including CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, relating to the incident in the town centre.
