Man's quick thinking foils attempted robbery
Police say a victim's decision to lock himself in his van in Tilehurst prevented him from being robbed
A MAN'S quick thinking prevented him from being robbed in Tilehurst today (Tuesday), according to police.
Shortly after 10am, a man was delivering money to a bank in School Road and was leaving his van with a cash box when he saw some men approaching him.
He ran back to his van and locked himself in the vehicle and although the men tried to gain entry to the van, they ran off when they realised they could not get in and left the area.
Det Con John Wordsworth, from Reading CID, said: “The victim's quick thinking prevented him from being robbed.
“Although he was not injured, he has been left shaken by his ordeal.”
Det Con Wordsworth added that the incident happened in a busy area in broad daylight and that there would have been a lot of people around.
Thames Valley Police have now launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident and anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 0845 8 505 505, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
