Marjorie shaves her head for charity
£1,000 raised for cancer research
HOW’S this for bravery?
Hungerford woman Marjorie Burgess has had her head shaved to raise cash for cancer research.
The 45-year-old, who lives in Kennedy Meadow, said: “It’s a cause close to my heart.
“My stepson, Keith Burgess, was stricken with throat cancer.
“He had an operation and has now recovered thanks to his treatment.
“But my friend, who is like a second mother to me, has also now got cancer and is undergoing treatment so I wanted to do what I could to help everyone who is fighting the disease, or who will do in the future.”
Ms Burgess was shorn – on her birthday – by staff from Hungerford’s Legends barbers at the town’s Royal British Legion Club.
She has raised around £1,000 for Cancer Research UK and said: “I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored me, and also the staff at Legends and to the Legion for letting me use the hall free.”
