Mark Cavendish among the top cyclists to ride through West Berkshire
The country’s leading professional cycling race opens in Liverpool on September 7 and will enter West Berkshire near Hungerford on September 12 for Stage Six at around 12.20pm.
The 29-year old cyclist from the Isle of Mann crashed out of the Tour de France on Stage One after suffering an injury that put him out of contention. But the 25 Tour de France stage-winning rider hopes to be fit for the race which will also see Sir Bradley Wiggins and a host of other international cycling stars compete.
Organisers also confirmed today that the Swiss IAM Cycling team will return to the national race with a strong line-up of three Grand Tour stage winners.
French champion Sylvain Chavanel who has won three stages of the Tour de France will make his debut for the British race, together with Giro d’Italia stage winner Jérôme Pineau and Australian Heinrich Haussler who was famously beaten by Cavendish in 2009 at the Milan San Remo.
Mathias Frank will also be returning from injury after breaking his femur on Stage Seven of this year’s Tour de France, together with Australian National Time Trial Champion Matthias Brändle and Norwegian Under-23 Champion Sondre Holst Enger.
The full list of competing riders for the Tour will be announced on Monday September 1 and confirmed teams are:
