Pizza on the Square at 5 Market Place in Newbury announces closure and switch to mobile catering business

A Newbury Market Place restaurant has announced its closure, with the unit currently listed for sale online.

Pizza on the Square, which opened last April, will be closing this May almost exactly a year on.

Fortunately, the independent Italian ‘pizza by the slice’ business will remain trading as a mobile caterer, appearing as a pop-up at festivals and events.

In a statement posted on social media, Pizza on the Square owners and couple Susy and Antonio Margiotta said: “What a year it has been.

“We have created memories and friendships we will treasure, learnt so much and thrown ourselves 100 per cent into everything we did.

“We write this with a sense of achievement for everything accomplished, a sense of appreciation for all the support received, and profound respect for the hard work and sheer amount of hours that anyone who works in hospitality or owns their own business does.

“We hope to see you all in the next two months and will keep you posted on all the exciting new developments.”

They also described the move from a restaurant to a mobile caterer as “the next exciting chapter” for the business.

The restaurant unit at 5 Market Place is currently listed for sale on Zoopla for £39,999.
