Marsh landscape in Hampshire

Paintings of the marsh landscape of Western France and its rare salt pans, by highly regarded painter Peter Joyce, are currently on show at Jenna Burlingham Fine Art, Kingsclere. A Year in the Salt Pans runs to November 30. The exhibition reveals Joyce’s concentrated study of the salt pan areas throughout one calendar year. It is an extraordinary area, which Joyce has thoroughly explored and researched by walking, mapping and photographing. His resulting work may on first inspection appear abstract but is in fact quite literal. Colours, shape, form and texture are all taken directly from life. There are only a few salt pans still working in Western France today, each managed by a single person where the salt is collected laboriously by hand.
You can view paintings and drawings in a variety of sizes and media at Jenna Burlingham Fine Art, 2A George Street, Kingsclere, Hampshire, RG20 5NQ.
