Mary Berry book signing among events today (Sat)





The Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry will be visiting Camp Hopson in Newbury on Saturday to sign copies of her new book.
The 79-year-old, who has become one of the most recognisable personalities on television since the popular show started in 2010, will be chatting to fans and signing her new cookbook Mary Berry Cooks the Perfect in store from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Camp Hopson is planning to incorporate her visit into a cookery-themed day that will include other demonstrations, and the store says it is expecting her visit to generate a lot of interest.
The Great British Bake Off, which is aired every Wednesday night on BBC One, sees 12 homebakers take part in a series of challenges.
With 60 years cookery experience, Mary Berry is considered by many to be the ‘queen’ of baking. She learned the art of baking from her mother before training at the prestigious cookery school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, at 17.
After that, she quickly established herself as a leading cookery writer and broadcaster and now has more than 70 cookery titles to her name.
The Aldermaston and Wasing show returns this weekend. The event, now in its 72nd year, will feature more than 100 competitions running alongside children’s activities, craft and beer tents and the ever popular duck derby.

The event has its roots in the the second world war when some of the villagers decided to hold a competition to encourage everyone to dig for victory.
The show will be held at 2pm in The Old Mill, Aldermaston, on Saturday, September 6.
Newbury will ring out the bells on Saturday as the Ringing Roadshow pulls up at the Racecourse Newbury.
Thousands of church bell ringers are expected to descend on the course on Saturday, with more than a hundred exhibitors selling a full ring of church bells to a bell-shaped key ring.
There will be the opportunity to ring on portable bell towers, listen to two concerts from the 40-strong handbell and try your hand at tune and change ringing on handbells.
There will also be a real ale bar selling a varied selection of locally brewed beers from the Three Cocks, West Berkshire and Ridgeway Breweries.
To cap it all off the group will be parachuting teddies from the Grandstand.
The event will run from 10am until 5pm. Advance tickets cost £10 while those under 6 go free.
The One Stop store in the Market Place will be holding a special fundraising day on Saturday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support.
The event will run from 10am to 4pm and the shop will host a cake bake sale, a raffle and a lucky dip for children.
Brave staff are also planning on taking part in the ice bucket challenge, the phenomenon that has seen everyone from leading politicians to sports starts get a bucket of ice cold water poured over them in the name of charity.
The popular novelist, journalist and broadcaster Sebastian Faulks will attend the grand opening of the new-look Boxford Village Hall on Saturday.
Mr Faulks is best known for his historic novels set in France -The Girl at the Lion d'Or, Birdsong, and Charlotte Gray.
He has also published novels ‘A Week in December’ and the James Bond sequel, ‘Devil May Care’ and can be seen on TV as a team captain on BBC Radio 4 literary quiz ‘The Write Stuff’.
Mr Faulks was born in Donnington and was educated at Elstree School, Reading, before going on to study at the Wellington College in Crowthorne.
He later became deputy editor of the Independent on Sunday, in 1989.
He will cut the ribbon at 4pm and there will be other entertainment throughout the evening, including an auction and live music.
Newbury Cricket Club Charlie Anstey will stand down as skipper after 19 years in their game against Theale and Tilehurst at Northcroft Lane.
In the football, Hungerford Town host Corby Town at Bulpit Lane, while in the rugby, Newbury Blues take on Maidenhead at Monks Lane.
