Mary Hare graduate gets prime spot in CBeebies programme

Aimee Campbell Nottage, aged 20, could be spotted presenting Magic Hands on CBeebies recently and the reruns are now being broadcast daily at 1.15pm until February 14.
The five-minute programmes mix sign language with spoken word, music and animation designed to bring poems to life and is aimed towards both deaf and hearing children.
The series is made by Remark Ltd, a company that is owned, staffed and run by people who are deaf, including its managing director Mark Nelson, who is a Mary Hare graduate, and series production manager, Sam Calder, who also attended the school.
The programme has also been shortlisted for a Broadcast Award for Best Pre-School Programme of 2013, the results of which will be announced on February 5.
Miss Campbell Nottage said: “It is fantastic...it is always better to learn sign language at an early age.
“Now young children can learn sign language by watching Magic Hands and copying the signs.
“Magic Hands will be good for hearing children because some of them may not have met any deaf people, and are not aware of British Sign Language, so they will learn something new.”
The series producer, Judith Bunting, who is also the spokeswoman for the West Berkshire Liberal Democrats, said: “It’s a credit to Mary Hare School that Aimee and so many others on this professional crew attended the school.
“Lip reading and aural communication is hugely important for Deaf students, but British Sign Language is also critical for many Deaf people for both professional and social engagement.”
