Newbury’s Victory Lodge supports homeless charity Loose Ends at Christmas
Freemasons have made a generous donation to a local homeless charity.
The Victory Freemasons Lodge, which meets at Newbury, has donated £2,000 to Loose Ends.
The Newbury-based charity offers a drop-in site for vulnerable and homeless adults – and the sum will enable it to continue providing warm meals through the winter amid rising operating costs.
Lee Farmer, who was to be the ‘master’ of the Lodge for a year, and his wife Nicola, visited Newbury Cricket Club a week before Christmas to present the donation to Loose Ends chair of trustees Diana Lacey and treasurer Ian Nichol.
They explained the donation from the Berkshire Freemasons of Victory Lodge would mean three months of operating their service over Christmas and into the New Year.
The couple decided to support the charity after being impressed by the support it provides.
The Lodge approved of its choice of charity and in September a Ladies Festival was held where members, friends and guests were invited to a formal dinner and evening of music and fundraising efforts.
Loose Ends was founded in 1990 and has grown from providing just a sandwich lunch on Sundays to now operating five days a week with hot food and other facilities on offer.
