The mayor was given an insight into the new community on a tour of the site, alongside David Wilson Homes managing director Campbell Gregg and site manager Matt Barker.

Mr Moore said: “The site will be a beneficial addition to housing choice across Newbury.

“I was impressed with the attitude of care with which the company is approaching the construction, notably to neighbours, the environment and the workforce.”

Lapwing Green will be delivered across three phases and feature a mix of two to five-bedroom properties, 47 of which will be affordable homes.

The initial foundations were laid at the development in December 2024, and the first phase of properties is set to be released in early spring.

Mr Gregg said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the mayor to our Lapwing Green development for a first look at this brand-new community.

“We’re excited to unveil the first phase of homes at this new community in Speen, and we look forward to helping a wide range of house hunters progress on the property ladder with a sustainable and energy efficient new home.”

Properties under the Government-backed First Homes scheme, which is designed to help more first-time buyers onto the property ladder, will be available at the development.

Under the scheme, homes are available for sale with a discount of up to 30 per cent of the market value, on selected brand-new properties up to a maximum price of £250,000.
