Mayor's coffee morning boosts community bus funds
In aid of the Bus of Hope, the coffee morning on Saturday, March 31, was attended by the mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck and Newbury MP, Richard Benyon, with the funds raised from what proved to be a brisk sale of refreshments and bric-a-brac.
“It was so busy at one time you couldn’t find a seat,” said co-ordinator for the bus, Enid Boyce.
Part of Christians Together in Newbury, the bus is to be used as a mobile resource to serve a wide range of community groups, including the elderly and children and is equipped with a 30-seat cinema upstairs.
Services provided by the bus will include pulling up to offer a chat and cup of tea/coffee for the elderly, who may be isolated in their homes.
However the bus will not be on the road until further funds are raised towards an exterior £7,000 vinyl wrap.
Next up to raise funds is a Talent Show, at Newbury Baptist church, on Saturday, May 19, at 7pm. Tickets cost £2.50 for adults and £1.20 for under 14’s. Contact Enid Boyce on (01635) 41637, or Gill McConkey on (01635) 254116 to book.
