Announcing the Hungerford Summer Festival Mayor's Portrait Competition 2022 winner
CONGRATULATIONS are due to Jane Elliman, winner of the Hungerford Summer Festival Mayor’s Portrait Competition 2022.
Residents were invited to create their own two-dimensional portrait of town mayor Helen Simpson, using any media; pencil, charcoal, paint, crayons, collage or pastel.
Ms Elliman, a stallholder at Hungerford Arcade for many years, said she has been painting and drawing since she was tiny, and won her first painting competition at the age of seven.
She added: "Sadly that was the last one I won – until now."
Mrs Simpson, who judged the contest, said she selected Ms Elliman's portrait not only because of the likeness that she was able to portray but also "because she has caught the light in my eye, and the joy in my heart".
Ms Elliman's portrait is painted in watercolour on board and will be exhibited temporarily at The Hub in the library in Church Street before it is given to the mayor to keep, courtesy of the artist.
As well as a prize, Ms Elliman received the Hungerford Summer Festival Mayor’s Portrait of the Year Trophy
If you missed this year’s competition, keep an eye out for Hungerford Summer Festival in 2023.
