McCoy receives OBE from The Queen

Champion jockey and Lambourn resident, Tony McCoy, visited Buckingham Palace yesterday (Tuesday)

SIXTEEN-TIME champion jump jockey and Lambourn resident, Tony McCoy, visited Buckingham Palace this week to receive his honour from The Queen.

The 37-year-old, from Lodge Down, was appointed an Order of the British Empire (OBE) last year in the Queen's Birthday Honours List - just months after winning his first Grand National on Don't Push It - and he was joined at the ceremony on Tuesday (June 28) by his wife Chanelle and three-year-old daughter Eve.

He said: “It was a great privilege and honour to receive the award.

“It was a really exciting day and was particularly special for Chanelle and Eve to go to the palace.”

McCoy, who was also voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2010, added that he could not have reached the heights he has done without the support of the owners and trainers who have supported him over the years.
