McDonald's staff take on charity cycle trek

Employees from Northbrook Street restaurant complete gruelling challenge

STAFF from McDonald’s in Northbrook Street are celebrating after undertaking a gruelling cycle trek for a children’s charity.

Shift manager Keith Hesp and crew trainer Chloe Walls completed the 126-mile bike ride from Newbury to the Ronald McDonald House in Guy’s Hospital, London and back, in just two days.

Mr Hesp said: “I’m proud to have helped raise money for the RMHC house in Oxford and raise awareness for this amazing charity which does so much good work.

“I decided that the 126-mile bike ride from Newbury to London would be the perfect challenge.

“My parents stayed in the RHMC house in Guy’s Hospital years ago and having that personal connection really made the challenge worthwhile. It was great to take part with Chloe as the ride was tough, but we gave each other moral support!”

The independent charity provides free home-away-from-home accommodation for families with children in hospital. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK. The pair raised £810 for the charity.

Local franchisee and owner of the McDonald’s Northbrook Street branch, Ross Drake, said: “I’m really proud of Keith and Chloe for taking on this tough challenge of a 126-mile bike ride to help raise funds and awareness for such a fantastic cause.

“Their enthusiasm was contagious and helped them raise an impressive sum for the Oxford house.

“It is important that we all rally together as a community to help make a difference for important causes like the Ronald McDonald House Charity, helping it continue to care for families with ill children.
