Medics to assess David Walliams this afternoon

The comedian, who is due in Goring later today, has picked up a stomach bug during his charity swim along the Thames

COMEDIAN David Walliams is to be assessed by medics in the next couple of hours after picking up a stomach bug during his charity swim along the Thames.

The Little Britain star got back in the river at Abingdon Bridge in Oxfordshire at 8.30am this morning (Wednesday) but before he set off the Sport Relief Twitter feed said: ‘David has woken up with an upset stomach - Thames Tummy'.

Walliams is due to reach Goring Lock tonight where he will set off from again in the morning swimming through Streatley, Pangbourne, Whitchurch and Reading.

However, his progress will depend on his recovery from a stomach bug he picked up yesterday. He is currently in Clifton Hampden in Oxfordshire.

Walliams ended the first day of his swim early, 2.3 miles short of his planned stop at Northmoor Lock because he was in pain.

Yesterday (Tuesday) he began at dawn to make up for the lost distance and swam through the dark to complete the 21 miles to Abingdon, where he arrived at 8.20pm.

The comedian's 140-mile swim is expected to take eight days and has so far raised more than £216,500 for charity.
