Memorial garden to honour Newbury ambulance man
The 56-year old from Thatcham joined the South Central Ambulance Service in 1993 before the crash at Woodcote between a refuse truck, a Ford Focus and a Subaru, in which he was a passenger. He died at Royal Berkshire Hospital following the accident.
The garden to commemorate his years of dedication to the ambulance service was officially unveiled last Thursday to honour the keen gardener who worked for most of his career in the Newbury area.
There were around sixty friends and colleagues who attended the event and fish and chips was ordered for all as it was a well known treat for Mr Evans on his many night shifts.
South Central Ambulance Service Team Leader Jo Mildenhall said: “This garden created in Andy’s memory will provide the staff with somewhere they can sit, remember their colleague and enjoy the surroundings.
“We are so grateful for the support that we have received from local companies and individuals who have kindly donated materials and flowers towards this memorial.”
The Newbury Ambulance Service is part of the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust who have covered the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire since 2006 and handle around 500,000 emergency and urgent calls each year.
