Memorial monument to wartime units
The memorial was planned by founder of the living history group Screaming Eagles, Bruce Steggles and was funded by a sponsored march and by donations from The Kennet Valley at War Trust (KVWY) and from the public.
Royal British Legion standard bearers from Ramsbury, Hungerford, Lambourn, Newbury and Headley attended the unveiling ceremony.
Members of all the above branches also attended with an array of medals and ribbons to remember those who were at the house during the war.
The two infantry, four armoured and two parachute units that were stationed at Littlecote House form a major chapter in its history, along with Henry VIII, the English Civil war and the Romans.
Speeches were made by KVWT spokesman Roger Day, Dave Allaway from the Screaming Eagles and Littlecote House Hotel general manager Nick Dodds.
The memorial was unveiled by Sam McCallum and Tim Green, both from the KVWT.
Mr Steggles said: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the following as it would not have happened without them: Ramsbury Estates, G.A Butler Newbury, Stone Circle Basingstoke, Brunel Engraving Clevedon and finally the management and team at Warner Holidays Littlecote.”
