Memorial service for David Rendel to be held on Monday
All welcome at event to celebrate the life of former Newbury MP
PEOPLE are invited to pay their respects to former Newbury MP David Rendel at a public memorial service next week.
The Liberal Democrat MP, who represented West Berkshire from 1993 to 2005, died from cancer in May, aged 67.
Mr Rendel’s family are to hold a public memorial service of his life at the Corn Exchange, Newbury, at 1pm on Monday, July 4.
Mr Rendel’s famous victory in the 1993 Newbury by-election saw him break almost 70 years of Conservative representation in the constituency.
He campaigned successfully for the West Berkshire Community Hospital and for a cinema in Newbury, while his support for the Newbury bypass led to conflict with protestors.
Donations in Mr Rendel's memory can be made to Voluntary Service Overseas or Médecins Sans Frontières (UK).
