Men convicted following "degrading" sexual assaults in West Berkshire park
Mohammed Sajad Asghar, aged 22, and Toseef Mahmood, aged 23, both from Reading, were found guilty of the brutal assault which took place after the pair arrived in Purley Park, Purley-on-Thames with three other Asian men after calling the 17-year-old victim, and her friends to meet them on November 5 last year.
Police say that their behaviour had been overtly sexual towards the girls from the outset, using sexual language, exposing themselves and touching the girls.
The court heard how the victim was separated from her friends and taken to a secluded area of the park where she was kicked and punched to the ground and forced to perform sexual acts on three of the men.
One of the attackers also attempted to rape the teenager.
As well as the trauma of the experience, the girl suffered bruising to her legs and arms, swelling to her foot and knee and tenderness in the back of her neck.
The victim also had her mobile phone stolen.
This week, a jury at Reading Crown Court found Asghar unanimously guilty of one count of oral rape, one count of aiding and abetting Mahmood to commit oral rape, one count of aiding and abetting an unknown third man for committing oral rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.
He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of theft on November 22, 2013.
Mahmood was also found guilty by a unanimous verdict of one count of oral rape, one count of aiding and abetting Asghar to commit oral rape and one count of aiding and abetting an unknown third man to commit oral rape.
Police had originally arrested three men in connection with incident, as Asghar has an identical twin, and officers took some time to eliminate him from their enquiries.
Investigating officer, Det Con Pam Finch, said: “This was a frightening and violent attack on the young victim, who was treated in the most degrading and damaging way by the two defendants, and the three other men who we are still keen to trace.
“This group of men plotted between them to bring this girl and her friends to a secluded park and sexually assault the victim. I am pleased the jury saw through their lies and convicted them of these offences.”
Both men were remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on January 17, 2014.
