Mencap Golf Day raises £2,000 for charity




Event benefitted charity’s personalised services for people with learning disabilities

THE West Berkshire Mencap annual Golf Day has raised more than £2,000 for the charity.

The event, held at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club on June 4, will benefit the charity’s personalised services for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers.

Nine teams from local businesses took part, with Newbury-based solicitors Gardner Leader the winning team.

Fundraising manager for West Berkshire Mencap, Carrie-Anne Ferrie, said: “We would like to thank everybody who kindly supported us by either entering a team, donating a prize, being a supporter of the event or volunteering on the day.

“The wonderful total raised will go towards maintaining and expanding our vital services which support so many people and their families locally.

“We would like to say a special thank you to Gareth and Amanda at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club whose help was invaluable for organising and running our Golf Day.”

And the fundraising doesn’t stop there. West Berkshire Mencap will be holding its annual music night in aid of its supported living service tomorrow night (Friday) from 7pm until 10.30pm.

It will be take place at the Mencap Centre, Enborne Gate, Newbury, and the evening will include performances from Jimmy Rocket and Helen, Kate Izzard, Not Souled Out, DarreFerrie and Zoe Badman Lailey.

Tickets are priced £6.50 for adults, £2.50 for children or £15 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

Those attending are asked to bring their own drinks and there will be hot food available to purchase on the night.
