Met Office issues heat warning as temperatures soar




Heatwave to peak on Thursday as mercury rockets

Newbury is set to swelter in baking hot temperatures this week as the Met Office issues a level 2 heatwave warning for the whole of the south east.

The yellow warning in effect across the whole of London and the south east warns of high temperatures between Wednesday and Thursday, with the mercury expected to peak on Thursday.

Forecasters said: “The highest temperatures are likely to be more isolated on Thursday as more cloud is expected.”

The east of England will see the hottest temperatures, with highs as much as 35 degrees and a level 3 – red, warning in place.

Newbury is forecast to hit highs of 24 degrees tomorrow by late afternoon, staying warm until temperatures cool on Friday.
