Grab your telescopes and be prepared for a spectacular display from the Delta Aquariids meteor shower, writes Joshua Barnes.

Tonight is the prime time to see an incredible space phenomenon which never ceases to amaze astronomers.

This particular shower has been going since July 12, however tonight is when it will be at its most vibrant.

To get the greatest view of the meteor, head far away from any visual pollution, such as town lights and wait until the night sky is at its darkest, which will be from midnight to around 2am in West Berkshire.

Expect to see around 15 – 20 meteors per hour racing across the sky at around 40 kilometres (25 miles) per second.

And if you miss this show, don’t worry. The infamous Perseid meteors will make their mark on the night sky in mid-August.

Even if you are not a stargazing enthusiast, it is a great opportunity to witness an awe-inspiring astronomical event.

So set your alarms for 2am and turn your eyes to the skies for the Delta Aquariid meteor shower.
