Michael Ball's West End costume to go under hammer at Newbury auction

Special Auction Services, based at New Greenham Park, is to sell the costume of Marius, worn by the two-time Olivier Award-winning Michael Ball in the 1980s production of Les Misérables and also at the 10th anniversary concert at The Royal Albert Hall, in January 2011.
Donated by Michael Ball and theatrical producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, the costume will be sold to boost funds for the charity Shooting Star CHASE, a children’s hospice service that cares for families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition, and of which Michael Ball is a patron.
The costume is in pristine condition and is emblazoned with ‘Michael Ball/Marius’.
Michael Ball said: “This is an exciting opportunity to own an important piece of theatrical history, to help a wonderful cause, and by the way, the suit still looks terrific on.”
SAS auctioneer Thomas Plan said that it was rare for such an item to go on the open market. “We are expecting a lot of international interest,” he said.
The auction will be held at SAS on Wednesday, May 15.
