Middle-aged Newbury man crashed scooter after drinking
Clare Barclay, prosecuting, said that 55-year-old Michael Baker was driving the ‘go-ped’ – a recreational off-road vehicle - along Arthur Road, Newbury, when he tried to pull the stunt.
However, his attempt failed when the chain to the motor disengaged, sending him flying from the scooter.
Tests later showed 100mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system. The legal limit is 80mg.
He admitted driving whilst unfit through drink on May 4 this year.
Representing himself, Mr Baker said he was an alcoholic and on medication, but added that he had “no excuses”.
The court heard that Mr Baker did not have a driving licence and had no future plans to apply for one.
However, magistrates said they had to act as if he may apply for one and imposed a 12 month ban prohibiting from driving any motor vehicle in a public place.
He was also fined £50 and ordered to pay a statutory charge of £20.
