Military go-karting charity takes over Bing's homepage today (Thurs)
Kartforce, founded by Newbury resident Dave Player, who formerly served in the Royal Engineers before suffering a spinal injury, is run from Mr Player’s home address, but operates on go-karting tracks nationwide.
They charity allows other injured troops to enjoy karting activities, as a one-off experience or as a competitive hobby, using a specially created control which allows amputees to accelerate and break using the steering wheel, a device designed by Mr Player himself, with many teams racing competitively against non-injured drivers.
Kartforce also provides a mentoring service to injured troops, to assist in their rehabilitation and recovery.
Mr Player said: “It’s an enormous honour that a company like Bing would nominate us, it’s a huge pat on the back for what the guys have achieved.
“The successes our injured troops have had on the kart track have amazed everyone, so it’s a huge honour that their achievements are being recognised, and very special that our charity has been nominated by Bing users.”
Head of Bing UK, Peter Maxmin, said: “The work that KartForce does is truly inspiring.
“They don’t just provide a safe environment for injured troops to experience the joys of karting; the support they provide injured troops in aiding their entire rehabilitation process is life-changing.
“Like many charities, this is sadly made more difficult by limited funding, which is why we’re delighted to be showcasing the charity as part of Bing’s Help Your Britain campaign.”
