Milkman scares off Hampstead Norreys would-be-burglars
Shop manager, Jane Dipple, said at around 1.45am, burglars gained access to the shop , situated in the B4009/Church Street, after jemmying open the back door, according to Mrs Dipple - but were then panicked by a milkman, whilst making his deliveries, and from the Southampton based, Pensworth Dairy.
“The milkman blocked their exit at the back of the shop with his vehicle,” said Mrs Dipple.
The burglars then made a “Dramatic exit” she said, after ramming their way through the front oak gates, knocking the gates off the hinges, before making off in a vehicle, believed to have been a green Subaru.
“They tipped the safe over - it’s possible they were trying to get it through the door,” said Mrs Dipple.
No-one was hurt and nothing had been taken, after the milkman “Frightened them off,” she said, adding the shop’s alarm also sounded.
“The shop is a bit of a mess, but we haven’t lost anything,” she added.
Mrs Dipple said it was “Business as usual” at the shop, after undaunted volunteers carried on serving customers this morning with their usual milk and papers.
