Mini Band fail to impress Britains Got Talent judges
Manager of Cold Ash-based, The Mini Band, Leo Westby, said the group had performed one of their own songs in front of a live audience of about 1,500 people and the four BGT judges: Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.
The band, whose members are all aged between eight and 11 years, were hoping to be a hit with the judges after becoming an overnight sensation on the internet recently, as hundreds of thousands of people viewed a video clip of one of their live performances in Bucklebury on YouTube and more than 30,000 people joined their Facebook group.
But at the contest in Birmingham on Sunday, only Walliams gave them a thumbs up.
Mr Westby said: “Simon Cowell just doesn’t like rock music.
“He was under the impression that if children were playing rock music they must be being forced to do it – clearly that’s not the case.
“He said that there was no market for children playing rock music.”
The Mini Band are eight-year-olds, Harry Jackson, Zoe Thomson, Kieran Fell and Harrison Read, 10-year-old Archie Zolotuhin and 11-year-old, Charlie Emmons.
Mr Westby said that that although they did not make it through to the second round it was a great experience and they were interviewed three times by the show’s hosts, Ant and Dec.
“Alesha Dixon did say that Charlie’s drumming was amazing,” he said, adding: “Ant and Dec were brilliant; they were such a laugh, even off stage.
“The kids really enjoyed the day. It was a great day out.”
