Minister seeks a smile in Newbury

GOOD day, readers and......smile!
Newbury's Methodist minister, the Rev. Maree Ferrimond, has launched a ‘Good Day Newbury' campaign to help spread cheer in the town.
Mrs Ferrimond arrived from Caldicot in Monmouthshire last September and said she was struck by the contrast.
She added: “People just seemed more friendly there, perhaps because everyone knew each other. I'm sure Newbury was the same in the days when there was still a cattle market but lots of people are new to the area.
“I noticed as I walked around that many people seemed preoccupied when shopping or walking the dog and some even looked worried. We can all join the ‘Good Day Newbury' movement, and all we have to do is wish those we pass a cheery ‘good morning' or ‘good afternoon.'
“Some will ignore you, some will look embarrassed, but it is likely that very many will smile- and it is catching, so let's share the smiles.”
What do you think of Mrs Ferrimond's campaign? Are we too grumpy in Newbury? Have your say on our forum.
