Minute's silence planned for Greece stabbing victim

Families flew out yesterday (Thursday) following reports of crazed cabbie's rampage

A MINUTE'S silence is to be held for Tadley teenager Robert Sebbage, knifed to death on a Greek holiday with friends.

Nineteen-year-old Mr Sebbage, who lived at Weyhill Close, died in the incident at Laganas in Zakynthos, Greece, in the early hours of Wednesday after reportedly being stabbed by a crazed taxi driver.

Today (Friday) his former school will hold a minute's silence.

Mr Sebbage was holidaying with fellow former Hurst Community College pupils Jordan Manson, Samuel Champion, Steven Granston and Callum Lane.

Mr Sebbage's parents Andy and Rhian said in a statement: “All these young men are very close friends. They all went to the Hurst School together - some went on to college together, some into work. They are simply just a bunch of nice lads and this is their first holiday abroad and they had all gone just to enjoy themselves."

The other teenagers were also hospitalised but their injuries are understood to be non life-threatening.

Meanwhile more than 5,300 people had registered condolences on a page entitled RIP Robert Sebbage on the social networking site Facebook.

Jonathan Pain wrote: “So sad to hear this news about one of my ex-pupils. Prayers are with your friends and family.”

Ben Angus wrote: “I just wish you knew how much we will all miss you. So for one last time, Robert Sebbage, sleep well, you absolute hero.”

Katie Louise Loughnane wrote: “RIP mate, you're missed and loved by so many people.” Sara Conran said: “So much respect for you Rob. You were one of the best. Can't put into words how sad I am for you and your lovely family.”

Mr Sebbage suffered from neuropathic bowel disorder and his bravery in combatting the condition led to him meeting his England football heroes, including David Beckham, in 2007.

College principal Malcolm Christian said on Wednesday: “All at the Hurst Community College were saddened to hear of Robert's untimely death.

He held a special place in our hearts for the way in which he had fought hard to overcome a significant medical condition when he was younger.

“We remember the many friendships he had created, his quiet tenacity in overcoming adversity and how well he achieved with us at GCSE level prior to going on to sixth form college.”

Mr Sebbage lived at home with his parents Andy and Rhian and had two elder brothers, Martin and Steven.

His parents and those of some of the other injured, are believed to have flown out to Greece yesterday morning (Thursday).
