Miss Galaxy Universe for former TA soldier
Sarah Pennicott, aged 37 of Thatcham, doesn’t even own a pair of high-heels at the moment but is entering the competition as a personal challenge.
She left the TA in 2004 and worked as a project manager for Vodafone before establishing Master Fitness, a personal training and pilates business, in 2010.
Refering to the Galaxy Universe competition, she said: “I’m not a very girly girl, it’s so out of character. It just goes to show that if you put your mind to something you can do it.”
The competetion differentiates itself from athletic, beauty or swimwear competitions, promoting it as being open for every woman with no age limit.
Mrs Pennicott said: “It’s about being able to have the guts to go on stage in a bikini and walk in high-heeled shoes, regardless of what size and shape you are.”
She will compete in several rounds, including the Yummy Mummy category, created for women over thirty who have at least one child.
This particular category moves aside from sterotypical pagaents usually designed to showcase the “perfect woman,” allowing women to wear full swimming costumes and not discounting points for occurances of motherhood such as stretch marks.
Mrs Pennicott will automatically be entered into the newcomer category as this is her first competition and then be requried to walk down a catwalk in a bikini and the dreaded high-heels as her “beach body” is observed, before changing into a glamourous evening gown for the supreme champion judging which marks the finale.
“What’s different about it is that we are all very supportive of everybody,” said Mrs Pennicott. “You can just be a normal girl feeling confident with your high-heel shoes.
“It’s not “look at me I’m better than you.” It’s not that type of competition, we have all got our hang-ups.”
Mrs Pennicott will fight for the title of Miss Galaxy Universe at the Alban Arena, St Albans, on October 20.
