Missing: 4ft white 'flightless' rhea flees coop
Owner Robin Canning has appealed for help in tracking down the animal after it went AWOL from the Willows Farm in Enborne on Sunday, August 19, on the first day of her arrival.
Mr Canning said the bird is nervous, and will run away at high speed when approached.
Rheas are similar to ostriches, cannot fly, and supposedly cannot swim, although this fugitive fowl fled the farm in a manner that would make Steve McQueen proud.
“We had it fenced in, with a pond on one side, they are not supposed to be able to swim, but this one did. It went straight for the water, swam across and was off into a nearby field,” Mr Canning said.
“So far there has been one sighting of her by a lady walking her dog at 6am near Enborne primary school, she said the rhea was standing on the grass verge and as she approached it ran off into nearby fields.
Mr Canning is offering £50 to anyone who can capture the bird.
