West Berkshire mobile library service halted as heatwave continues across the district




UPDATE: The Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham will close at 1pm tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the hot weather.

This includes the cafe, shop and toilets.

West Berkshire's mobile library will not be running today (Monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the continuing heatwave.

Any items that were due for return on these days have been renewed for a further loan period.

The library team posted the changes on social media, adding: "Stay cool, everyone!"

The district council has issued a number of warnings over the past few days due to the extremely hot weather.

A Level 4 heatwave alert is in place until the end of tomorrow (Tuesday) and the council has activated its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP), which means that rough sleepers are able to access supplies of water and shelter during this time.

Water and shelter will be available from Two Saints accommodation at 107 London Road, Newbury and 210 Newtown Road.

The council said it expected the SWEP to be in place all week.
