More e-scooter concerns in Thatcham

Another Thatcham resident has raised concerns over the use of e-scooters in Thatcham.

A complaint was made to councillor Simon Pike surrounding illegal use in the town.

The resident said: “There is a proliferation of illegal use of e-scooters.

“Especially by young people who are under the legal age for a driving licence, and ridden on footways without consideration to pedestrians.

“This has been reported to the police, but no apparent action has been taken.”

A similar complaint was made on July 31 at a council surgery.

The Thames Valley Police Neighbourhood Police Team were present at the surgery.

The team responded and said they do stop people who are riding antisocially and give them a letter.

If a person is caught again, they will confiscate the e-scooter.

In April last year a resident raised concerns over the rise of use of e-scooters and riders who don’t obey the roads.

In response, councillors suggested that the introduction of speed limits may quash the problem.
