More flats for Newbury?

A new planning application could see a number of flats and a cottage developed in Newbury town centre

A NUMBER of flats and a cottage could be developed in Newbury town centre under new plans.

Shirwell Ltd has submitted fresh plans to change the use of three commercial units in The Broadway and Oxford Street to improve rental flexibility and to rationalise and upgrade the existing five residential units above the commercial frontages into a mix of 12 one and two-bedroom flats and bedsits and a cottage to the rear.

The three commercial units, which include the clothes shop SW & Company, the Nepalese tandoori restaurant Gurkha Chef and a vacant unit, would be retained under the plans, which are due to be determined by West Berkshire Council in March.
