The M4 will be closed through part of West Berkshire this week.

The eastbound carriageway will be shut from junction 13 at Chieveley to junction 12 at Theale.

The closures will take place from 9pm each evening until 6am the following morning.

The works begin tonight (Monday) and will continue until Friday (July 4).

Further overnight closures are planned next week, between Tuesday (July 8) and Saturday (July 12) and throughout the year until October.

National Highways said it was to allow carriageway resurfacing to take place.

“For safety, we'll need overnight full closures of the eastbound carriageway and some overnight lane closures,” it added.

Diversions will be in place for drivers, who will be advised to exit at M4 Junction 13, continue southbound on the A339, then join A4 London Road, continue onto Bath Road and re-join the M4 at Junction 12.

National Highways is advising motorists to allow extra time for journeys.

Elsewhere, this evening (Monday), there will be overnight lane closures on a busy Newbury road.

Lane 2 of the A339/A4 at the Robin Hood roundabout will be shut for "strictly critical work" to be carried out.

The road will close at 8.30pm for the masterscreed work to be carried out.

It is expected to reopen at 5am on Tuesday.

The closure will be in place close to Hutton Close.

On the same evening there will be a northbound closure of Shaw Road, from the Robin Hood roundabout to outside number 33.

The closure will be in place at some point between 7pm tonight (Monday) and 5am tomorrow (Tuesday).

It is to replace a manhole cover and frame and the closure will not be in place at the same time as the lane closure on the Robin Hood roundabout itself.

Volker Highways will be carrying out the work on behalf of West Berkshire Council, who apologised for any inconvenience the works will cause.
