More than £1,000 worth of toiletries donated in Tesco Loose Ends appeal

Loose Ends, the Newbury-based charity drop-in centre for the area’s homeless and vulnerable, teamed up with the Northbrook Street store in early November to launch a joint initiative.
Customers were invited to donate soap, shampoo, toothpaste, disposable razors and deodorant to the cause into a box in-store. The products were then given to the charity, which currently supports around 50 homeless people.
The goodwill of Tesco customers also allowed small parcels of products to be given as Christmas presents to those who attended the Loose Ends Christmas lunch.
The vice-chairman of Loose Ends, David Griffiths, said: “The generosity of Tesco’s customers exceeded our expectations, with many giving several items at a time.
“Personal hygiene is an important factor in boosting self-esteem and therefore can help our clients to move on in life.
“All at Loose Ends would like to thank Tesco Metro staff and customers for their great support for this successful campaign.
“The customers displayed great generosity and interest and all the staff worked hard to support this campaign.”
The store manager for Newbury Tesco Metro, Chris Rogers, said: “It means a lot for us to be able to support local community projects.
“Loose Ends is a vital lifeline for many people in the town centre and it’s a great way for us to help our customers support a local charity.
“A huge thank you to all our loyal customers for helping us support an amazing local charity.”
Following the success of the week, the donation box remained in-store throughout December and will be present throughout this year.
