More than 100 arrests in drink and drug driving campaign
According to Thames Valley Police, the latest figures reveal 109 arrests in the Thames Valley area between midnight on December 1 - when the campaign was launched, and 11.59pm on Sunday (December 16).
Of those arrested: 50 were from Berkshire, 38 were from Buckinghamshire, 21 were from Oxfordshire, 79 per cent were male, 21 per cent were female and the average age was 38.
Fifty three of those arrested were charged and 38 were released on police bail.
Thames Valley Police road safety sergeant, Chris Appleby said: “This time last year we had 161 arrests for drink driving showing a 32 per cent decrease on this year's anti-drink and drug driving campaign.
“This is a great result so far, however driver’s should remain aware that we are carrying out regular drink driving checks until the end of December. As a matter of course, we also test any driver involved in a collision regardless of the time of day and whether they have been drinking or not.”
All drivers who provide a positive breath test or fail a field impairment test to determine whether they have been using drugs, refuse to provide or fail to provide, face losing their licence for at least 12 months. They could go to prison for six months or pay a fine of up to £5,000.
