More than 30 firearms handed in at Newbury Police Station

Members of the public were able to surrender firearms and ammunition during this time without fear of being prosecuted for holding them without a licence.
A total of 255 firearms were handed to police at stations across the Thames Valley region.
Police have also received 127 lots of ammunition and a grenade.
Weapons handed in to front counters will now be forensically examined and information sent to National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) where appropriate.

The breakdown of results by station are as follows:

Abingdon police station - 60

Slough police station - 6

Maidenhead police station - 35

Newbury police station - 32

Oxford police station - 9

High Wycombe police station - 26

Reading police station - 11

Banbury police station - 16

Loddon Valley police station - 21

Milton Keynes police station - 22

Aylesbury police station - 17

Chief Inspector Lindsay James, who was leading the campaign, said: “We have been extremely pleased with the number of firearms and ammunition handed in and consider the surrender to have been a great success. I would like to thank the public for the excellent response.
“Every weapon handed in is now one less that could have ended up in the wrong hands, making the Thames Valley a safer place to live.”
