More than 60,000 expected at Royal County of Berkshire Show

More than 60,000 people are expected to attend Berkshire’s biggest and best- loved event over the two days, and the early weather forecast is looking promising, with fine dry spells predicted for much of the South East.
However, if you can’t make it in person, the Newbury Weekly News reporters will be bringing you live updates from the showground via our website, www. newburytoday.co.uk, our Twitter acc-ount @NewburyToday and on our Facebook page.
Some of the NWN team will also be selling programmes on both days. If you are coming, why not pop over and say hello to us – we will be based at the press tent and will be happy to have a chat.
Also, remember to keep checking for travel updates before you set off, as traffic is expected to be heavy near the showground.
Among the don’t-miss attractions this year are the chicks being born at the Vauxhall City Farm and a large display of working vintage machinery.
Elsewhere, the popular TV broadcaster and author Clare Balding will be signing copies of her new book Walking Home: My Family, And Other Rambles’ in the membership tent on Avenue B for an hour from 12.50pm on the Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Harvest Centre will feature a team aiming to press a tonne of apples per day to make Berkshire Show apple juice.
There will also be opportunities right across the showground for visitors to “have a go” at certain events.
They are being invited to learn how to be a celebrity chef in 20 minutes at the cookery theatre, or have a go at a new sport in the Sports Zone.
The popular livestock arena will again be a big part of the show, with Highland cattle, llamas, pigs, sheep and goats among the animals on display.
Newbury-based company The English Provender Co., makers of chutneys, curds, condiments and salad dressings, will have a stall at the show and will be hoping to raise £6,000 for local hospice Naomi House.
A special president’s dinner was held at the showground last Friday, which was attended by the representatives from the NWN, show sponsors and local dignitaries.
The president of this year’s show is Zoe Benyon, the wife of Newbury MP Richard. The chairwoman is Rhona Tucker.
Advance tickets for the show are priced at £15 for adults, £13 for concessions and £5 for children aged between 5 and 16.
